Cardinals vs. Rockies: Series at a Glance

The St. Louis Cardinals avoided being swept by the second-place Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday afternoon--and in the gist of a current ten game home stand, they host the Colorado Rockies tonight in the first of four games this week.

The Cardinals improved to 41-38 on the season overall following yesterdays 5 to 4 win and with the combined loss by the Reds to the Giants cut the deficit in the division race to just two and a half games.

This will be the first meetings between the two ball clubs during the current 2012 season--but was an opponent that the Cardinals are currently 8-2 in the last ten meetings between the two.

Here is a quick glimpse at the four game series and the pitching matchups that the games feature;

Monday, July 2nd-7:15pm Central Time-FOX Sports Midwest
Josh Outman (COL) 3-0, 9.32 ERA vs. Kyle Lohse (STL) 7-2, 2.82 ERA

Tuesday, July 3rd-7:15pm Central Time-FOX Sports Midwest
Jeff Francis (COL) 1-1, 5.47 ERA vs. Joe Kelly (1-0, 3.38 ERA)

Wednesday, July 4th-6:15pm Central Time-FOX Sports Midwest
Christian Friedrich (COL) 4-5, 5.52 ERA vs. Adam Wainwright (STL) 6-6, 4.75 ERA

Thursday, July 5th-7:15pm Central Time-FOX Sports Midwest
Drew Pomeranz (COL) 0-3, 3.72 ERA vs. Lance Lynn (STL) 10-4, 3.62

The four game series begins tonight and should be an entertaining series. The Rockies are certainly a team that we have had success against in the recent past and with them having a down season at the moment, hopefully the Cardinals can kick it into full gear and take advantage of some of the mismatch pitching matchups that we have on paper. Hopefully the Cardinals can take three out of the four games--if not all of them and possibly get a taste of first place or atleast stay right in the rear-view mirror of the Reds and Pirates for the division lead heading into the All-Star Break.
