Colvin strikes again; Rockies beat Cards 3 to 2

The Colorado Rockies haven't had the best of luck against the defending-champion Saint Louis Cardinals in the recent past; but tonight, that all changed.

Outfielder Tyler Colvin homered for the second time in as many nights, and the Rockies defeated Saint Louis 3 to 2 inside Busch Stadium in a very exciting game on Tuesday night.
Colvin, who is a product of the Cardinals' division-rival Chicago Cubs, hit a three run bomb in the top half of the third inning; which ultimately proved to be the game-winning blast--which brought in the last runs of the night for either side.

Cardinals starter Joe Kelly had another impressive outing tonight, but took the loss as his record fell to 1-1 on the season--and the Cardinals fell to 42-39, overall.

Kelly went six-innings deep as he gave up just three runs on five hits. The bullpen looked impressive as well, as both Browning (who made his ML debut) and Salas combined to throw three innings, giving up no runs and no hits.

Matt Holliday homered for the second time as many nights as well against his former team, as he hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first that proved to be the only runs that the defending champs put on the scoreboard.

Colorado Rockies' starter Jeff Francis got the win on the night, as he gave up just the two Cardinal' runs on five hits--his record improved to 2-1 overall and the Rockies got a much-needed win.

The Rockies bullpen was pretty good on the night as well--but they did let the Red Birds keep it interesting. Rafael Betancourt recorded his thirteenth save in seventeen chances as he survived a long ninth inning in which the drama ended with runners on the corners and a strike out of Jon Jay--which certainly wasn't an easy task as Jay was hitting. 417 in his career in fifteen games against Colorado in his career--and was 2-for-3 on the night at the time with two singles, a walk, and a run.

Carlos Beltran finished 0-for-3 tonight, ending his nine game RBI streak in which he had fifteen runs' batted in.

The Cardinals and Rockies will play game three of the current four game series tomorrow night. The game will start at 6:15 pm Central Time as it will be on FSN Midwest; with fireworks being on display at the stadium following the game.
